When Should You Plan a Senior Trip?
(Especially for Sports Families)
Mama, your heart may not be ready to hear this—but if you’re the parent of a current junior in Spring sports, you likely don’t have another Spring Break left with them. Between baseball, softball, lacrosse and packed schedules, most families quickly realize that a traditional Spring Break Senior Trip just isn’t realistic.
The good news? Senior trips don’t have to happen during spring break—and in many cases, they’re actually better when they don’t. Here’s exactly when to plan a senior trip, and how to choose the timing that works best for your family.
Why Spring Break Doesn’t Work for Most Senior Athletes
The majority of families we work with don’t travel during spring break—and honestly, they’re better off because of it.
Here are the most popular (and practical) options:
🌞 Summer After Graduation
This is the most popular option. School is done, schedules open up, and it’s the perfect way to celebrate everything they’ve worked for.
🍂 Fall Break During Senior Year
Fewer crowds, better pricing, and more flexibility. This is a great option for families who want a more relaxed experience.
🎄 Christmas or New Year’s During Senior Year
If you want something memorable and a little more elevated, holiday trips are a favorite for many families. PLUS – many parents already have this time off of work, making it a huge bonus! This is an expensive time of year to travel; however, you can always consider giving the gift of experience (the trip) in lieu of a bunch of presents. (Plus, no cooking or cleaning for the week for you!!!)
When Families Actually Take Senior Trips
If your teen plays baseball, softball, or any spring sport, you already know—spring break isn’t really a break.
Between required practices, tournaments, and unpredictable schedules, trying to plan a trip during that time usually turns into more stress than it’s worth… And the last thing you want is to spend thousands on a trip your senior can’t fully enjoy (or worse… miss entirely).
This is where a lot of families get stuck—they assume senior trips have to happen during spring break. They don’t.
Why Planning Early Makes a Huge Difference
This is the part most people underestimate.
The earlier you plan, the more options you have—especially for group travel. That means better room categories, better pricing, and way less stress trying to piece things together last minute.
We’ve seen it happen over and over again—families wait too long, and suddenly the best options are gone or prices have jumped significantly.
Planning early doesn’t mean committing to every detail right away. It just means getting ahead of the chaos before it starts.
PLUS – The further out you plan, the longer everyone has to budget for the trip! We are able to obtain group rates 12-24 months in advance.
The Biggest Mistake Parents Make
Waiting until senior year to start planning.
By the time most families start thinking about it, availability is limited—especially for the types of resorts and room setups that work best for groups.
If you’re even considering a senior trip, starting the conversation during junior year gives you a huge advantage.
Why Most Families Don’t Want to (and shouldn’t) Plan This Themselves
Coordinating a senior trip sounds fun… until you’re the one trying to organize it.
Multiple families, different budgets, flights, room types, payments—it adds up quickly. And usually, one parent ends up doing all the work.
That’s exactly why so many families choose to have it handled for them. Instead of managing all the moving pieces, you get to actually enjoy the experience from the start.
