Cruises vs All-Inclusive Resorts for Senior Trips
Which is the best fit for your Group?
With all of the cruise lines, itineraries, destinations and resorts you may be overwhelmed when trying to choose which is the best fit for your group for their senior trip. Let’s talk through the Pros and Cons of each.
Pros of Cruises
- The itinerary is already set – no deciding where you are going, when you are eating, etc.
- It’s easy for us to book your rooms together
- Families have an array of room options based on their budget, but no matter what they choose, you’re still on the same ship
- SO much to do onboard (waterparks, ice skating, zip lines, rock climbing, casinos, sports bars)
- Great nightly entertainment
- Easy to ensure the entire group has nightly dinner reservations together
- May not have to have a passport (although we highly recommend you do, even when not required)
- Get to visit multiple destinations
Cons of Cruises
- Lead in cost is deceiving, as it doesn’t include drink packages, wifi, gratuities, insurance, specialty dining or excursions.
- Excursions can be very expensive
- The dates are set. Families do not have flexibility to arrive / leave on different days.
- There can be drinking age discrepancies depending on the cruise line. Some do not allow passengers to drink unless they are 21, others allow them to drink at age 18 once they are in international waters.
- Rooms are generally very small
- Options for families of five+are very limited
- Possibility of Motion Sickness
- Group perks are very minimal
Pros of All-Inclusive Resorts
- Easy to know the all-in cost up front
- Many different room types available to suit different budgets
- Tons of onsite entertainment
- Food, Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and wifi are included
- Families can arrive and leave on the dates that work best for their individual schedules
- Drinking age is 18
- Easy to plan
- Depending on the size of the group, there can be some great perks! (Comped rooms, private cocktail hours, etc)
Cons of All-Inclusives
- It can be hard to choose a resort that fits the groups budget / desires
- Some do not allow four adults in a room
- Families of five will need a suite or have to book two rooms (suites sell out very far in advance)
- Most resorts are not as strict when it comes to underage drinking (although some are!)
- Depending on the resort, there may or may not be a lot of activities or nightlife
- Can be difficult to get rooms close together
- Can be difficult to get dinner reservations for large groups
